Overview: The Minnesota section of IFT and the Minnesota chapter of Phi Tau Sigma invite you to attend the virtual September kickoff virtual dinner meeting. This year, we will have a presentation on the featured topic: “The Implications of a Dietary Shift to Plant-based Foods: Sustainability, Health, Technology and Regulatory Perspectives.” Recently, in several parts of the world, there has been a large dietary shift to plant-based foods/flexitarian diets driven by a wide range of factors such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, COVID, animal welfare, populism, and new technologies. This presentation will examine the implications of a global shift towards alternative protein sources, primarily plant-based ones, and their potential impacts to agricultural production, new and innovative technologies, human health, and regulatory environments. The presentation will feature Dr. Rickey Y. Yada, Professor and Dean from the University of British Colombia. The event will be held virtually on Thursday, September 30th through Zoom from 4:30-6:00pm CT zone. It will begin with a 40-minute live presentation from Dr. Yada at 4:30pm followed by a 10-minute Q&A session. We hope to see you join us for this exciting presentation!
