Overview: "Food processing and Nutrition – a balancing act"

This discussion will highlight various food nutrients and their importance in human nutrition, various food processes and their (positive and negative) impact on nutrition.

Speaker

Dr. Nitin Joshi, CFS

Dr. Nitin Joshi is a Sr. Principal-R&D at PepsiCo, located at their Frito Lay business in Plano TX.

Dr. Joshi has over 30 years of experience working in food industry. His area of expertise includes but not limited to ingredient innovation, product development, commercialization, quality improvement, cost optimization, partnership/collaboration and many more. During his professional career Nitin has lead development of many food products such as pizzas, sauces, dips, soups, beverages, dairy products, cheeses, ice creams, snacks, handhelds, frozen products, etc. Prior to Allied Blending, Nitin has worked at DMI/Pizza Hut, Campbell Soup Company, and in India, he taught food/dairy processing courses at university level and also worked at Vadilal Ice Cream Company. Nitin has also experience of working in overseas countries, such as India, Canada, Mexico and Asia Pac.

Nitin is a current Chair of Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Annual Meeting Scientific Program (2022). Dr. Joshi is an active member of IFT and is involved at the national level in a variety of positions including: chair of Hot Topics, chair of Dairy Foods Division, Division Champion team, Leadership at Product Development division, etc. At section level, Nitin held leadership positions at the Philadelphia section including as a chair. Currently, Nitin is a Technical Program Chair and College Bowl coordinator in the Long Horn section of IFT. He is also volunteering as a judge for State Science Fairs and is a speaker at various universities and IFT sections.

He earned his bachelor and master’s degrees from Gujarat Agricultural University in India and his doctorate from South Dakota State University, Brookings. He has 45+ publications to his credit.
